Celebrity Mama-to-Be featuring Halle Berry
Congratulations to Halle Berry and beau Oliver Martinez! The couple were married over the weekend. They held a quaint ceremony in a village church in France’s Burgundy region.
Already a mother to a five-year old daughter, the pregnant actress, Halle Berry, who was recently interviewed back in April by CNN, describes her pregnancy as the “biggest surprise of my life”. She noted, ““I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me”. However, Halle Berry also noted that she “feels fantastic!”
In the interview, she went on to explain how her pregnancy made her think more about the pre-natal healthy of her baby. “Especially now, being a pregnant woman and already having a child … it’s so important what happens to the baby while they’re in utero. And the first 1,000 days is fundamental,” said Berry. She revealed her pregnancy has inspired her to act on behalf of hungry children and pregnant women who struggle with maintaining proper nutrition during pregnancy, teaming up with the Word Food Programme in the fight against hunger.
We’d like to commend Halle Berry for being an inspiration for mothers who believe that a healthy life starts in the womb.
Fashion Friday - Maxi-mizing Your Wardrobe…our favorite summer maxi dresses for pregnant women
Put on a maxi dress during the summer days for a feminine and fashionable look!
We love THE long, flowy dresses for pregnancy that we’re seeing all over New York this summer. Maxi dresses happen to be trendy this season, but their appeal is anything but fleeting.
Here’s what we love about maxi dresses for pregnancy:
1) Effortlessly chic: Taking a page out of style maven Rachel Zoe‘s style book, maxi dresses are a classic go-to item for an effortlessly chic, yet comfortable look.
2) Elongate your figure: Longer dresses can elongate - giving the illusion of a thinner, taller you - even if you’re not feeling that way while pregnant!
3) Easy to accesorize for a versatile look: Depending on patterns and fabric, the maxi dress can be a nice go-between dressy and casual; you can easily wear one for an evening look as well as a daytime look. With some great accessories, such as some jewelry or a clutch, you can take your look from day-to-night in a snap!
Here are a few of our favorite maxi dresses perfect for the summer.

Celebrity Mama-to-Be: Jaime Ray Newman
Congratulations to Jaime Ray Newman who’s expecting a baby girl sometime this August. The actress and her husband recently celebrated the oncoming arrival of their daughter with a rooftop baby shower bash over the weekend. At the event, the actress and star of ABC’s Red Widow, opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop in an interview about her pregnancy and thoughts on becoming a mom.
When asked for her thoughts on her pregnancy, Newman commented, “Thankfully, I’ve been feeling really good. Now I’m starting to slow down and my feet are getting a little tired, but up until now I’ve had a lot of energy and I’ve felt great! I love being pregnant.
Newman also appears to be ecstatic for her approaching motherhood. On what she looks forward to the most as a mom, the actress said, “All of the endless nights of sleep I am going to get. [laughs] I am just excited to have something bigger than me and Guy out there. You get so self-involved and wrapped up in yourself, especially in our business, so it will be really nice to have something more significant than us.”

Fashion Friday - Our Top Pregnancy Workout Picks
Being pregnant doesn’t mean exercise should be put on a standstill, as celebrity yoga instructor, Kristin McGee proved to us earlier in the week. Exercise is a vital part to staying healthy and fit; this applies to during pregnancy as well! In fact, regular exercise during pregnancy can help improve posture and decrease common pregnancy ailments such as backaches and fatigue. Also, exercise during pregnancy helps build stamina, which in turn makes labor and delivery a little bit easier for expecting mamas.
Fortunately, there are plenty of brands – both maternity and non-maternity – that will take you fashionably through your 9 months. Here we have some tips on picking out appropriate workout wear for pregnancy.
- Look for tops to grow into. Look for tops that go to hip length or have a drape-y style so you have room to grow as you move further along in your pregnancy. Our favorites from FitBump and Lululemon are the Iris Top, the Practice Freely and the No Limits Tank.
- Invest in a sports bra with proper support. To accommodate a growing bra size during pregnancy, make sure to give yourself enough support for workouts. We like sports bras that offer a racerback with wide straps—racerbacks help distribute the weight of your breasts evenly and wide straps help relieve pressure from your back. Check out this handy guide to find the right sports bra to match your bra size.
- Find low-rise workout pants that can accommodate your belly. Higher-waisted pants may restrict and cause discomfort. The low-rise waistband will provide more comfort and give you room to grow. We recommend Lululemon’s Wunder Under Crop and FitBump’s Heraand Danae capris. If you prefer a foldover maternity pant that can be rolled up or down without restricting the belly, try Splendid’s Fold Over Belly Maternity Pants.
Celebrity Yoga Instructor and Mama-to-Be—Kristin McGee

Kristin McGee hasn’t let her pregnancy slow her down from what she loves—yoga. As a fitness trainer to the stars, Kristin McGee stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy with exercise being one of the key ingredients. In a recent segment on the Daytime Show, Kristin McGee said, “I have been doing Pilates and yoga throughout my pregnancy and I feel wonderful.”
On her blog, she recommends several different workouts and yoga poses for pregnant women to try out that help relieve pregnancy back pains and increases blood flow in the pelvic area but at the same time she warns to stay away from really deep twists that cross the midline of your belly.
Congrats to Kristin on her first child, due this month! Thanks for inspiring pregnant ladies to be healthy and fit.

Fashion Friday - Footwear
During pregnancy you might not be able to wear sky-high heels or stilettos but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on cute footwear. Here we have a guide for keeping your feet chic and comfy while pregnant.
- Keds As classic as they get. They come in every single color of the rainbow and every summery pattern you can dream of. They also come in several different styles—lace up, slip-ons, flats—so you can mix it up. This summer Kate Spade has teamed up with Keds to release a Kate Spade line of Keds’ footwear. We’d like to take a moment out and point our favorite: the navy and white striped Keds x Kate Spade New York Pointer.
- Espadrilles. Popularized by Toms, espadrilles are perfect for the summer because they’re a light, breathable kind of shoes you can wear them without socks. But watch out, although, these style of shoes are flat, so they’re comfortable to walk in, but unfortunately have little to low arch support. So keep that in mind when on the hunt for the perfect pregnancy shoe. If you’re in the mood for a splurge, Chanel has these uber chic fabric espadrilles.
- Wedges. When we say wedges, go for a more modest wedge with a teensy bit of height. High-heeled shoes are usually the safest bet for a pregnant mom because they increase the chances of accidentally rolling your ankle. But, if you’re in the mood for something a little more exciting than flats and sneakers we love wedges because they’re chunky and offer more foot support than normal heels. A perfect example of a good wedge is this one by Tory Burch.
- Sandals. The weather is perfect to break out the sandals. They come in a various assortment of size and styles and materials so you’ll have a lot of freedom with finding what you want. Just watch out for sandals that are too tight and too strappy as they may restrict the amount of blood flow in your feet. Here’s a pair by Modcloth we love.

Celebrity Mama-to-Be: Michelle Monaghan
Congratulations to Michelle Monaghan!
Already a mother to a 4-year-old girl named Willow Katherine and slated to star in three upcoming films in 2013, actress Michelle Monaghan has just announced over the weekend that she’s expecting a second child due sometime later this fall.
In an earlier interview with Women’s Health magazine back in 2010, Monaghan talked about the experiences of being a mother for the first time. She shared her thoughts on being a working mom, “On my kitchen counter sits a KitchenAid mixer, a potty seat, and a small pile of scripts…That pretty much sums it up. I’m a homemaker, a potty trainer, and a part-time pretender.”
She also talked about her lifestyle changes due to the arrival of her first daughter, “For the first time, I thought about my well-being. Now I’m trying to instill healthy eating habits in my daughter, so by default my husband and I are eating healthier.”
So for our mamas-to-be out there, or already mamas, do you feel as if your pregnancy has provided some extra motivation to make some lifestyle changes you wouldn’t have thought about before? Tell us on Facebook!
